When you are about to ovulate, your body will release a large amount of a hormone called LH (Luteinising Hormone). LH is always present in your urine but the levels increase (surge) when you are about to ovulate, causing you to release an egg from the ovary. If the LH surge is present, ovulation is likely to occur in the next 12 to 36 hours. OPK which stands for Ovulation Prediction Kit is a test strip whereby you can dip into your urine sample to test the level of LH in your urine.Do note that it is not advisable to test ovulation with your first urine in the morning as LH is synthesized in your body early in the morning. The ideal time to test will be 10am – 8pm.
After ovulation, the next that comes is the agonizing 2 weeks wait (2WW) before you can test if you are pregnant. A pregnancy test measures the presence of the hormone Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin (HCG) in your urine. HCG is produced in the placenta shortly after the embryo attaches to the uterine lining. This hormone then builds up rapidly in your body in the days following successful conception.The ideal timing to test if you are pregnant is total opposite of testing of ovulation. Using Home Pregnancy Test kit (HPT), it is best to test with your first urine of the day whereby your urine is most concentrated. HPT can be used to detect pregnancy as early as DPO10 (DPO=day past ovulation).

OPK comes in 3 types of sensitivities:
20mIU – High sensitivity
30mIU – Medium Sensitivity
40mIU – Low Sensitivity
For OPK, the lower the mIU, the higher the sensitivity it will be. It is highly recommended for most users to opt for high sensitivity for proper detection of your LH surge.
HPT comes in 2 type of sensitivities:
10mIU - High sensitivity
25mIU - Normal sensitivity
Essentially the higher the sensitivity the earlier you will detect your pregnancy.
